who provide personal data on the “WELCOME” Card in the European Economic Area

Scope

We, the Church of Scientology, are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data at all times. In accordance with applicable legal requirements, we provide you with the information laid down in this Privacy Notice.

We provide you with this information because you showed an interest in being informed about the Religious Services of the Church of Scientology or the Global Social Betterment and Humanitarian Programs supported by the Church of Scientology (The Way to Happiness, Drug-Free World, United and Youth for Human Rights, Volunteer Ministers, Citizens Commission on Human Rights) (collectively, “Church Services & Programs”) by filling out the “WELCOME” Card in a local Church you visited.

Who is responsible for your Personal Data?

The personal data you provide on the WELCOME Card are collected by the local Church of Scientology where you completed the WELCOME Card, indicated with all contact details, for use by the Church of Scientology for the purposes laid down herein.

What Personal Data we collect and process

The only personal data we collect and process in this context is the personal information you provide on the WELCOME Card. You are free to provide such data or leave the section asking for such information blank, with the only consequence that we cannot provide you with the information you are interested in.

As you can see from the WELCOME Card, we only collect and process the following categories of personal data (to the extent freely provided by you):

  • Your name and contact details
  • Your age
  • How you found out about the Church of Scientology (TV, internet, handout, etc.)
  • In what area of life you are most interested

How and why we use your Personal Data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To send you 3 (three) post mailings with information about our Church Services & Programs according to your areas of interest.

    You may opt out from receiving such mailing on the WELCOME Card or you can object to further receiving these mailings at any time by contacting the Church where you completed the WELCOME Card or by contacting dpo@scientology.net.

  • To fulfil any requests you have in relation to your areas of interest.

  • To allow us to follow up on such requests in the context of further contacts between you and us.

Do we share Personal Data?

We will not disclose your personal data to third parties outside the Church of Scientology without your prior consent or another lawful basis.

We may use service providers for mailings or for technical support and maintenance services. We only permit service providers to process your personal data on our behalf, consistent with this Privacy Notice, and we require them to have appropriate technical and organisational measures in place to protect your personal data.

Do we transfer to third countries?

In case an organisation of the Church of Scientology using your personal data for the purposes laid down herein is located in a third country outside the European Economic Area whose jurisdiction does not provide an adequate level of data protection, a transfer of your personal data will only happen conditional to appropriate safeguards by ways of standard contractual (data protection) clauses adopted by the EU Commission.

How long will we keep your Personal Data?

Except as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law or regulation, we will only retain your personal data until one year after we have sent you our third mailing.

If during this period, you enrol for a Church Service or sign up to volunteer in a Social Betterment and Humanitarian Program, the personal data you provided on the WELCOME Card will become part of your personal record for such Church Service or Program, and we may use it for the purpose of your participation therein consistent with our related personal data policies.

What are your rights regarding the processing of your data?

In accordance with the respective legal requirements, you may at any time request information about your personal data, rectification or erasure of your personal data and you may have the right to object to further processing thereof by contacting the Church where you completed the WELCOME Card or by contacting dpo@scientology.net.
